Actor James Gandolfini has died of a heart attack.
Born in 1961, Gandolfini got his professional acting start on Broadway in 1992, making his major film debut the next year with True Romance. After a well-regarded string of film roles throughout the 1990s, he assumed the role of his best-known character, Tony Soprano, in 1999. Gandolfini won three Best Actor Emmys for his work on The Sopranos.
Gandolfini is survived by wife Deborah Lin and son Michael from his previous marriage with Marcy Wudarski.
